ANDRITZ Metals Germany is an experienced rolling mill manufacturer and has been building shape measurement and shape control systems under license from the VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut (BFI) for more than 45 years, registered under the shape:tronic system trademark. The general-purpose shape control systems are used in various kinds of rolling mills in the steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and non-ferrous metal industries.

The ANDRITZ BFI shapemeter roll has a completely uniform, homogenous surface, free of any gaps, thus avoiding damage to the strip surface. Unlimited possibilities in roll coating extend the service life of the roll surface virtually indefinitely.
Thanks to the higher mill production capacity and improved strip quality ANDRITZ delivers, you can count on an even faster return on investment in most cases.

During the cold rolling process, the rolling stock warms irregularly over the strip width for various reasons. These temperature differences lead to proportional strip length modifications. In practice, a strip temperature difference of at least 20–30 kelvin occurs frequently. If this temperature effect is not considered at the time of the online shape measurement, it leads to shape differences when comparing the online shape measurement and the offline shape measurement after cooling of the strip.

As an extra option, the shape:tronic system can also be used to detect the relative strip temperature profile over the strip width and compensate for temperature effects, thus permitting shape measurement that is largely independent of the strip temperature.
