Refuse Derived Fuels

Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) is a valuable substitute for primary materials such as gas, oil and coal. ANDRITZ offers modern and efficient processing technologies for the production of RDF.

RDF is tailored for utilization as fuel in waste-to-energy facilities or industrial applications. It typically comprises combustible fractions like plastics, paper, and biomass, refined to meet stringent standards for calorific value, moisture content, and particle size distribution.

The robust ADuro P and ADuro S shredders are used for primary and secondary shredding. Quickly exchangeable screens allow many different output sizes. In the end, the ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals can be recovered with a superior purity of 98% – perfect for use in the steel industry.

Waste processing serves the dual function of sorting and recycling materials like metals, paper, cardboard, glass, and certain plastics (such as PET). Additionally, it involves separating and post-shredding waste to achieve desired caloric values and particle sizes, yielding RDFs suitable for specific firing technologies.

ANDRITZ leads in custom waste-to-energy solutions, handling various RDF qualities efficiently. Understanding high, medium, and low calorific RDF types, ANDRITZ optimizes waste-to-energy processes. The innovative approach ensures sustainable solutions for evolving waste management and energy needs.

“Our goal is to be a valuable partner for our customers. With our tailor-made solutions, we can adapt our system to the individual needs of our customers and thus optimize their processes.”

Energie AG Südtirol

For a project in Italy, ANDRITZ Recycling has proved in more ways than one that high speed does not necessarily mean poorer quality. Within just six months, the Austrian technology group developed a new rotor design for Energie AG Südtirol Umwelt Service S.r.l. to be used in a high-throughput, single-shaft shredder. The Final Acceptance Certificate was issued less than a week after the new machine was installed.
