Hydropower activities in Weiz
ANDRITZ Hydropower in Weiz is home to the global research and competence center for hydro and turbo generators. In addition to the development of generator technology, ANDRITZ Hydropower in Weiz also constructs vertical and horizontal hydro generators, tube generators, generators and motors for pump storage power plants, and turbo generators (air-cooled turbo generators for General Electric) for ANDRITZ Hydropower’s hydropower projects worldwide.
The production facilities in Weiz include manufacture of mechanical core components as well as complete assembly of generators and related electrical check-ups. Our project managers, engineers and technicians ensure professional installations and commissioning of generators on site – worldwide. The Hydropower Service Division is also represented in Weiz and responsible for improvement of existing facilities and maintenance of hydro generators.
History
ANDRITZ Hydropower in Weiz has its roots in the Franz Pichler Works, founded in 1892, which later became part of the ELIN group. In the year 2000, VA TECH HYDRO was established through the merging of ELIN, VOEST-ALPINE MCE, and Sulzer Hydro (formerly Sulzer Escher-Wyss). In 2006, VA TECH HYDRO became a member of the ANDRITZ GROUP, changing its name to ANDRITZ HYDRO GmbH.
Since its integration into the ANDRITZ GROUP, the location in Weiz, as part of ANDRITZ Hydropower, has been expanded and the number of employees continually increased. The location offers specialized training workshops for our apprentices to qualify them as engineering technicians, mechatronic engineers, cutting machine operators, and electrical engineering technicians.
